1. When I finish my 4 generations,
how do I submit it to the Pedigree Resource File so it will be online?
Go to Familysearch.org. Click the
tab SHARE. Sign on. The menu on the left hand side will answer other questions
for you. When you are ready, click "I am ready to submit" and
follow the directions.
2. How do I create a new file in
PAF?
Open PAF.
File-New.
Save it in your Family History Folder (you may have to create one).
Fill out the contact information.
3. Grandma sent me a gedcom file.
How do I get it into PAF?
Open the PAF file you want to add these new names to.
File-Import. Find the gedcom file where you saved it.
4. I imported a gedcom file into
my PAF file. Why can't I find any of those new names on my pedigree?
Check in the individual list. They are probably there. You probably need
to merge some names to connect the two pedigrees. Tools-match/merge.
5. How do I use TempleReady?
Open your PAF file. File-Export for TempleReady for Windows. On the screen
"Select Individuals for TempleReady," change the relationship
filter to individual. Click once on the person you want to do work for.
Select (that person will now have a carat by his name >). After you
select all the individuals you want, press okay. Uncheck "Put the
word submitted..." Save the file on a floppy disk and take it to
the family history center. They can help you run it through TempleReady
there. Then you will have a disk to take to the temple.
6. How do I use FamilySearcher?
Install FamilySearcher from your Gift of Family History disk or download
it here. Before you use FamilySearcher, open your PAF file. File-Export-export
to other gedcom 5.5 (select all) - export. Save the new file in your family
history folder.
Now, open FamilySearcher. It will open two windows. In the top window,
File-Open- (open the gedcom file you just saved). In the bottom window,
sign in to your FamilySearch.org account. You are ready to start searching.
Click on the person in the top window that you want to research. Click
the tree icon to search Familysearch.org. Then click the "A"
icon to search Ancestry.com. FamilySearcher just helps you search these
good websites a bit faster.
7. How do I email my PAF file to
someone?
The easiest way to email your PAF file is to backup
your file as a zip file then email it. First, open your PAF file. File
- Backup. (Remember where you saved it.)
Open your email. Attach (find the zip file that
you just saved). Send.
